Certification to International Cyber Security Standard IEC62443-4-1
Nidec Drives is now TUV SUD certified to the international cybersecurity standard IEC 62443-4-1 titled:
-
IEC 62443 – Security for Industrial Automation and Control Systems (IACS)
-
Part 4-1: Secure Product Development Lifecycle Requirements
-
Achieving IEC 62443-4-1 certification reinforces Nidec Drives' commitment to delivering secure, reliable and future-ready industrial automation solutions to our customers worldwide.
IEC 62443-4-1 defines the processes that manufacturers must follow to develop secure industrial automation products, including variable speed drives, PLCs, HMIs, industrial network equipment, and embedded software and firmware. Gaining certification shows that Nidec Drives has cybersecurity embedded in all development processes areas including:
- Security requirements definition
- Secure design and threat modelling
- Secure implementation and coding practices
- Security verification and validation
- Vulnerability management
- Defect management and tracking
- Patch management
- Product end-of-life and retirement processes
Compliance with IEC 62443-4-1 demonstrates that cybersecurity is embedded throughout the product lifecycle and that products are developed using a secure-by-design and defence-in-depth approach.
Nidec Drives IEC 62443 accreditation is a key milestone towards meeting the new "prevention of corruption" requirements in the EU Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 that becomes mandatory in Jan 2027 and the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) that comes into force for machine manufacturers and their suppliers from December 2027.
