Industrial Alternator Workshop Repair & Overhaul

Complete refurbishment, rewinding and remanufacturing to restore long‑term reliability.

When on‑site maintenance becomes too complex or constrained, industrial alternator workshop repair is the most reliable solution to restore performance and extend service life.

Nidec Power provides complete workshop overhaul and refurbishment services for industrial alternators, including disassembly, deep cleaning, insulation refurbishment, rewinding and full rotor or stator remanufacturing. Depending on the scope of work, these services are either a standard overhaul or a full insulation system refurbishment.

When to Choose Alternator Workshop Repair

What we do

  • Assess technical, safety and logistical constraints on site
  • Define whether workshop repair is required based on maintenance depth
  • Organise transport to a qualified repair workshop or manufacturing facility
  • Secure handling and preparation of the alternator for workshop operations

Workshop repair is recommended when on‑site intervention is limited by technical, safety or logistical constraints, such as:

  • Lack of lifting equipment or handling capacity
  • Insufficient working space
  • ATEX or restricted access zones
  • High contamination requiring deep cleaning
  • Need for insulation refurbishment or VPI process

In these situations, the alternator is transported either to one of our qualified repair workshops or, when relevant, back to its original manufacturing facility.

Customer benefits
You benefit from safer working conditions, controlled repair processes and a level of refurbishment that cannot be achieved on site.

Overhaul & Insulation Refurbishment

Our workshop services cover two main levels of intervention, depending on the condition of your alternator and your operational objectives.

What we do
We dismantle the alternator in workshop conditions and restore its mechanical and electrical systems according to the required maintenance depth.

Standard Overhaul

  • Complete disassembly
  • Deep cleaning of stator and rotor
  • Mechanical inspection and refurbishment
  • Replacement of wear parts as required

Full Insulation System Refurbishment

  • Complete insulation system assessment
  • Insulation refurbishment or replacement
  • Full Vacuum Pressure Impregnation (VPI) when required
  • Electrical and mechanical requalification

These interventions aim to restore the alternator to a condition suitable for long‑term, reliable operation.

Customer benefits
Performance margins are restored, insulation‑related risks are reduced and the service life of the alternator is significantly extended.

Alternator Rewinding & Rotor / Stator Remanufacturing

Beyond standard MT5 and MT6 catalogue services, Nidec Power offers advanced repair capabilities for industrial alternators.

  • Rewinding of individual components (rotor or stator)
  • Complete rotor remanufacturing
  • Complete stator remanufacturing
  • Replacement carried out on‑site or in workshop

These solutions are particularly relevant when components have reached the end of their electrical or mechanical lifetime, or when long‑term asset preservation is required. Replacement can be carried out either on site or in workshop, depending on installation constraints.

Customer benefits
You avoid premature replacement of the alternator, reduce lead times compared to new equipment and optimize total cost of ownership.

A Structured and Expert‑Led Repair Process

  1. The workshop repair process is designed to give you full visibility and control at every stage.
  2. The alternator is returned to our workshop
  3. Complete dismantling and inspection
  4. Critical points reviewed by OEM engineering teams and Nidec Power Service specialists
  5. Identification of issues, risks and repair options

You then receive a full expert assessment report, including conclusions, recommendations and a proposed timeline. Work starts only after  your approval.

Customer benefits
You have full visibility on condition, risks, costs and repair options, enabling confident and informed decision‑making.

Restoring Reliability for Years to Come

When workshop overhaul is not possible, we offer on‑site disassembly, cleaning and full servicing

Once validated, repair and refurbishment work is carried out as efficiently as possible, using OEM processes and qualified workshop resources. From targeted refurbishment to full remanufacturing, our objective remains the same: returning to service an industrial alternator capable of operating reliably for many years.

Customer benefits
Your alternator returns to operation with predictable performance, improved reliability, reduced downtime and a clearly extended operational lifetime.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose workshop repair instead of replacing the alternator?
Workshop repair restores your existing alternator to long‑term operational reliability at a significantly lower cost and lead time than new equipment, while preserving your installed base and avoiding unnecessary capital expenditure.

When is workshop overhaul the right solution?
Workshop repair is the best option when on‑site maintenance is limited or risky (restricted access, ATEX zones, heavy contamination) or when deep electrical work such as insulation refurbishment or VPI is required.

What is the difference between standard overall and full refurbishment?
MT5 restores mechanical and electrical performance through a standard overhaul.
MT6 goes further with full insulation system refurbishment and VPI, extending service life and reducing long‑term electrical risks.

Can you repair or remanufacture critical components?
Yes. Nidec Power can rewind, remanufacture or replace rotors and stators, avoiding premature alternator replacement and optimising total cost of ownership.

What guarantees reliability after repair?
All workshop repairs follow a structured, OEM‑led process, with expert inspection, engineering validation and full requalification — ensuring predictable performance and years of reliable operation.
